Rare Views is a global collection of distinctive places to stay, united by one thing: a remarkable view.
A château looking across a river valley. A stone cottage above the sea. A riad overlooking an ancient city. A cabin facing a mountain range. A villa suspended above the Mediterranean. A safari house looking onto the bush.
The property matters enormously — it should have character, quality and a sense of place — but the view is what earns it a place in Rare Views. Architecture, country, price point and landscape can all change. The constant is the view, and the relationship between the property and its setting.
These are characterful, individually chosen homes where the setting is part of the experience: river, landscape, village, coast, history, atmosphere. Beautifully restored and thoughtfully furnished, but deliberately not hotel-like and not generic.
Which is the distinction we care about most. Rare Views isn't curating expensive houses. It is curating exceptional places to be — at different price points, in different countries, in very different landscapes.
It begins with a handful of homes we know intimately, in France, Ireland and South Africa. Over time it will grow, one place at a time, wherever the outlook justifies it.
The view is the luxury
There is something powerful about looking out.
A remarkable view gives the mind somewhere to wander. It creates space to think, imagine, dream and simply be still.
And the extraordinary thing is that the view belongs to no one. A mountain seen from a grand villa is the same mountain seen from a little cottage further down the road. The river doesn't become more beautiful because the house overlooking it costs more. The sunset doesn't know the price of the room.
So Rare Views isn't defined by price. It is defined by the view — and by beautiful, characterful places from which to experience it. Sometimes that place is extraordinary in its own right: a château, an architectural house, a spectacular villa. Sometimes it is wonderfully simple: an old stone cottage, a cabin, a tiny house, a home that has stood on the same hillside for generations.
In fact, sometimes the simplest places bring us closest to what we came to see. Because the real luxury is outside. The mountains. The ocean. The river. The forest. The rooftops of an ancient town. The changing light. The enormous sky.
These things weren't created for us. They haven't been filtered, enhanced or optimised. They are real — and in a world increasingly filled with things that aren't, there is something more precious than ever about sitting somewhere beautiful and looking at something that simply is.
A view can calm us, inspire us, ground us, free our imagination, connect us with the people beside us and with those who stood in the same place long before us.
