La Terrasse stands on the hillside just above La Roque-Gageac, its back to the great limestone cliff and its face to the river. Three bedrooms, each with a view, open onto a large terrace overlooking the water and the village below — a rare thing in a village this famous, and the reason we love this house.
It is a house made for slow days: coffee on the terrace while the mist lifts off the river, an afternoon in the water or a kayak, then the five-minute walk down into the village for dinner as the cliffs turn gold.
The view
From the terrace, the whole scene of La Roque-Gageac unfolds — the golden village stacked against its cliff, the Dordogne sliding past below, canoes drifting down towards Beynac. It is one of the great views of France, and here you wake up to it.
